Abstract:

Contains correspondence from attorney Fisher Ames concerning the disposition of Theodore L. Schell's estate, a copy of his will and other legal documents pertaining to his death and a book in memoriam to Schell's family from The Society of California Pioneers. Also includes a letter and newspaper clipping concerning Schell's survival after the shipwreck of the S.S. San Francisco, a contract and bill for remodeling of the Schell home, some genealogical information and a poem.

Theodore L. Schell, born 1827 in New York, first arrived in California Nov. 1, 1849 as a purser on the steamer Panama. Schell eventually settled in Sonoma County, Calif. and died Dec., 1877.
